Course contents
You will leave with a selection of reference samples you've sewn that you can refer to when embarking on future sewing and dressmaking projects. Choose to do either or both of the courses - you save £8 if you book both together:

Level 1 course: Mondays 5th and 12th August 7-9.30pm  £38 or buy both levels 1& 2 for £68 (£8 discount)

  • Dress/skirt zip
  • Buttonholes 
  • Pockets & topstitching
  • Machine hemming
  • Finishing techniques for necks & armholes
  • Understitching facings for perfect edges

Level 2 course: Mondays 19th & 26th August 7-9.30pm  £38 or buy both levels 1& 2 for £68 (£8 discount)

  • Gatheringeasing 
  • Inserting piping in seams
  • Hand sewing hems
  • Invisible zips 
  • Sew curved bust seams and rounded edges
  • French seams

Where?The Sewing Lounge is situated in Kingsway House, opposite the South end of George St, Hove. It's easy to get to on the bus or on foot from Hove station. You'll be sent full details of getting to us and parking on your booking confirmation.

Sewing machines We can provide sewing machines, which are the same machines they used on the BBC's The Great British Sewing Bee, or you can bring your own.


What do I need to bring?
All these items can be purchased at Fabric Land or most other sewing supplies shops. Click here for info

Level 1:

  1. A 8" closed end normal zip, any colour 
  2. 0.25 cm of fusible (iron on) interfacing - medium weight, any colour, from any width roll
  3. 1 metre length of medium weight cotton or calico or an old sheet (at least 1m wide too). Your materials will cost you around £2-5 depending on your choice of fabric. A guide of what to bring and where to buy will be given on your booking confirmation
  4. One metre length of piping cord (looks like white thick string!) and 1 metre of 1" bias binding 
  5. Ordinary good quality polyester sewing thread in a colour that matches your fabric
  6. We will provide sewing machines (or bring your own if preferred) and also bobbins - you can keep your bobbin for cost of 40p

 Level 2: 

  1. A 12" or longer invisible zip (double check you are buying an invizible zip - check with shop staff!), any colour
  2. 1 metre length of medium weight cotton or calico or an old sheet (at least 1m wide too). Your materials will cost you around £2-5 depending on your choice of fabric. A guide of what to bring and where to buy will be given on your booking confirmation
  3. Polyester sewing thread in a colour that matches your fabric
  4. We will provide sewing machines (or bring your own if preferred) and also bobbins - you can keep your bobbin for cost of 40p
