Find out which teachers are offering their own classes

After Sew in Brighton Sewing School closes down at the end of August 2024, some of our teachers will be starting to offer their own classes. Please see details below of who is offering what. 

Mel Roberts
Our popular teacher Mel will be running daytime and evening sewing groups for sewing, clothes making and pattern cutting at The Gathering Place, Orchid View, Hollingbury, Brighton BN1 8GP. More venue details here on Facebook
Classes will run on Tuesdays from 10th September 2024 at these times:
- 10am-12.30pm
- 1-3.30pm 
- 7-9.30pm.

Mel also offers one to one lessons.
Subjects: tissue fitting patterns, alterations, fitting, dressmaking, techniques like zips, pockets, buttonholes, pattern cutting and drafting, replicating existing clothes, sewing at all levels including beginner.

 Marina Kyriacou
Our fun, motivating and skilled beginner sewing teacher Marina offers 1-2-1 beginner sewing lessons, including 'get to know your sewing machine'.

  • Have your class at Marina's studio in Hove, or

  • If you have your own machine she can travel to you.

Marina is also looking to set up a crochet club in Hove soon, so get in touch if you're keen on crochet

Marren Hager, is a professional pattern cutter, who specialises in teaching pattern cutting along with all levels of sewing and clothes making, including complete beginners. Marren taught a few very well received Stitch! Sessions for Sew In Brighton over summer 2024.

Marren will be offering small group sewing classes (max 3-4 students) just off Lewes Rd at Rodhus Creative Studios, 16-30 Hollingdean Rd, Brighton and Hove BN2 4AA (near the big Sainsburys).
Group sewing, pattern and clothes making sessions:
- Mondays 9:30-11:30
- Thursdays 3:30-5:30.
1-2-1 lessons available on request on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Susan Bates
Susan, our knit and crochet teacher says "I am offering knitting, crochet and could also offer cross stitch and needlepoint in a 1:1 format in a cafe near the Level and London Road, Or town centre/ laines, Or Hove. Or I could go to the clients house. Basically anywhere easy to get by bus is my location remit!"

Hannah Evans
Hannah teaches overlocking at beginner and more advanced levels. She also teaches complete beginner sewing and is a professsional pattern cutter and seamstress. She is offering 1-2-1 / private classes for students in their own homes and possibly from her own space in Saltdean. She is based in Brighton and Saltdean. Sew In Brighton owner and founder Kat may have the odd space for one to one / private lessons going forward (£45/hr, min 2.5hrs at your house or 2hrs at Kat's in Peacehaven).
