Additional notes:

  • wash your fabric at 60 degrees and iron it before making it into bags, to pre-shrink/clean it
  • see the video at the bottom of the page on how to lay in ribbons on Step 11
  • some are making deeper bags but I've had this bag's size (approx 48x 52cm when finished) confirmed as great by an NHS nurse
  • Use any fabric that can be washed at 60 degrees. You need a piece 110x50 for this bag (or two peices approx 55x50).
  • The reason we suggest using a random print fabric suggestion is so you don't get sideways hearts/horses /flowers or whatever the print is, as the bags are cut sideways on the fabric!  Stripes are fine as they can go across or up and down : )
  • See bottom of page for fabric ties/straps bag downloadable tutorial if you have no ribbon.
  • Ribbon can be bought online at Fabric Land or other haberdashery shops

We made kit bags for the NHS during the Coronavirus pandemic early 2020, this is the tutorial if you'd like to make one:

VIDEO HELP for ADDING the RIBBON
Below is a video we made showing the instructions for step 11 - inserting the drawstring ribbons. Sorry it's portrait!

GOT NO RIBBON??
If you don't have ribbon & want to make your own drawstrings you can download this free bag tutorial with self-fabric drawstrings. Or see this Youtube tutorial on turning through straps (cut them 5-6cm wide for this with a half to 1cm seam). Or if you have a bias binding maker set (I got mine inexpensively on Ebay) try this tutorial to make fabric ties
